A new top-secret Star Wars film is reportedly in the works with award-winning Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy reportedly roped in as the director.

American screenwriter Damon Lindelof will co-write the new movie with a writer that is yet to be announced. Production is likely far out as the script is still being written, according to Deadline.

It was important to the production studio, Lucasfilm and Lindelof that a director be brought on so that person’s own vision for where they see this story headed gets included in the script, according to sources.

The plot of the film remains a big Hollywood secret with no set release date. The last film in the franchise was Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.

An unnamed “Star Wars” movie is set to release in December 2025, but none of the other “Star Wars” film projects in various stages of development have been officially announced, let alone given a release date.

The filmmaker is all set to make her narrative feature directorial debut with the film Brilliance, produced by Will smith.

Lindelof rose to prominence as the co-creator of the show Lost and is a well known force in the world of TV with credits such as The Leftovers and Watchmen. In the features world, he has written multiple Star Trek films as well as Universal’s The Hunt. In 2010, Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
