Karachi replaces Lahore as world’s most-polluted city

Karachi: Karachi has replaced Lahore as the most polluted city in the world, according to a report issued on Sunday.

The city has recorded a particulate matter rating of 235. Lahore ranks second in the list of the most polluted cities in the world. The city has recorded a particulate matter rating of 233.

Indian capital Delhi ranks third in the list of the most polluted cities in the world.

The city has recorded a particulate matter rating of 191. It is to be noted here that a particulate matter rating above 301 indicates hazardous pollution.

As per the standards of air quality index, if the PM rating lies between 151 and 200, the city would be considered as ‘unhealthy’, rating between 201 and 300 falls under the category of ‘highly unhealthy’ and anything above 301 falls under the ‘hazardous’ category.
