Karachi police said Tuesday that it has arrested a man seen horrifically beating his minor nephew and niece in a video that went viral on social media.

SSP East Abdul Rahim Shirazi said that the accused, Safdar Hussain, had allegedly subjected the minor siblings to the worst torture for stealing 100 rupees, adding that the children kept crying but the accused had no mercy.

Shirazi said that the children have been taken into custody and shifted to Social Welfare Department, while the accused has been arrested and transferred to Baloch Colony police station. A case has also been registered against the accused.

Police said that the incident took place in Karachi’s Rehman Colony, Sector A, and was a few weeks old, adding that the accused was arrested today after the video of the incident went viral on social media.

They said that when the children were tortured, the parents were not at home and the children’s mother was in Punjab.
