Prime suspect in gun attack on Chinese citizens arrested
The prime suspect in a gun attack on Chinese citizens in Karachi’s Saddar area last month, information minister Sharjeel Memon said.
A Chinese national was shot dead and two others were injured on September 28 after an unidentified assailant opened fire inside a dental clinic in Karachi’s Saddar area.
“The Counter Terrorism Department of Sindh and other institutions together conducted the investigation,” Sharjeel said while addressing a press conference in Karachi. “Waqar Khushak, who attacked the clinic has been arrested.”
The information minister added the suspect apparently belonged to the banned Sindh People’s Army, adding that he was arrested with the help of the latest technologies. “The terrorist was arrested with the help of 100 CCTV cameras.”
Law enforcement agencies have recovered the motorcycle used in the attack. Sharjeel said that the suspect has admitted to being part of the outlawed organization.
A team has been formed for the accomplices of terrorists, he said, adding: “Terrorists had no enmity with the Chinese citizens.” The attack was made to spread terror in the city, Sharjeel said.
Sharjeel claimed that it was an attempt to block foreign investment in Karachi and congratulated LEAs.
“A few days ago two terrorists of Da’esh [Islamic State] were killed,” he said, adding that suspects in the Kharadar attack have also been arrested.
He dispelled such an impression that the police were “not doing enough”. The minister was of the view that an attack was not made on Chinese citizens but on Pakistan.
“People in foreign countries control such terrorists,” he said, “Imran Khan is doing nothing less than a banned organization as such groups also wanted to destabilise Pakistan.”
Sharjeel said: “Terrorists do not know why they are killing people.”
