Imran’s supporters gather at Bani Gala after arrest warrant
Workers and supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) started to gather at the party chief Imran Khan’s Bani Gala residence on Saturday, hours after the issuance of his arrest warrant over his remarks against Judge Zeba Chaudrhy and others during a public rally on August 20.
Senior Civil Judge Rana Mujahid Rahim issued the arrest warrant over a complaint filed at the Margalla police station.
The news of the arrest also resulted in a swift response on social media, with pro Imran Khan hashtags dominating the top trends on Pakistan Twitter. The top trend translates into “Lets head towards Bani Gala’.
Shortly after, the Islamabad police tweeted an explanation for the warrant to clarify the news about his arrest.
“Imran Khan did not appear in court on his previous appearance. An arrest warrant has been issued to ensure his appearance in court,” it said. It added that the PTI leader had not yet obtained bail.
“In case of non-appearance, he can be arrested.”
