ISLAMABAD: The former ruling party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, is expected to start its long march against the government in the third week of October, sources said.

Imran led party, whose senior leadership met on Friday for an emergency meeting, would give the final date for the long march within one week. The party chief has directed the leadership to start final preparations for the demonstration.

The huddle expressed concerns over the return of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz’s acquittal by the Islamabad High Court in the Avenfield properties corruption reference.

However, some of the party leaders on social media have hinted that the protest could also start on October 7.

The call comes a day after the second part of the alleged audio clip of Prime Minister House involving top leadership of PTI was leaked online. The then-prime minister Imran Khan was clearly told in March that the cipher he wanted to use to advance his political narrative was a transcript of a meeting and not a letter.

The leaked audio was recorded purportedly at a meeting between Imran Khan, PTI’s Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Asad Umar, and then-principal secretary to the PM, Azam Khan. The discussion appeared to revolve around a meeting between US Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu and then-Pakistan Ambassador in Washington Asad Majeed.

“The transcript of the meeting and letter is the same thing. You can’t call it transcript in public rallies because people would not understand,” Imran said in the audio tape.

Last night, PTI’s Fawad Chaudhry tweeted “seven days” apparently after the meeting. Later in another tweet, he urged the people to get ready for “real freedom”—the motto of the PTI to oust the coalition government.

He said the people have to decide about their “future” in order to change the prevailing system.

Asad Umar, the former planning minister, claimed that the government was oblivious as it did not know that the people knew everything.

Amidst this, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar announced the government’s decision to slash petroleum product prices.

After the reduction, the new price of petrol is Rs224.80 per liter. The price of kerosene oil was also decreased by Rs10.19 per litre. The price of high-speed diesel has been decreased by Rs12.13 per liter while that of light diesel oil (LDO) was reduced by Rs10.70 per litre.
