The apparent threat of more audio leaks from the Prime Minister’s House today (Friday) has kept many people on their toes — the reason being the announcement made by the self-proclaimed hacker on social media.

In a post from the Twitter account, @Indishellgp, on September 27, the unidentified person claimed to release “all audios” on Friday. The message was also shared on a hackers’ forum where the original hacker using the pseudonym of Indishell (without the ‘gp’) offered three audios as samples and demanded over Rs81 million for the complete data, which he claimed contained over 100 conversations.

However, an internet monitoring group concluded that the above-mentioned Twitter and other accounts were created by an “impersonator” and not the original hacker, who is inactive since September 26.

The monitoring group had also said that people should not expect more audios from the account. The hackers’ forum, too, deleted the thread in which “real” and “fake” hackers had posted updates.

However, since Thursday night a Twitter account @Indishelllgp has been posting tweets about fresh leaks, which it claimed were imminent.

But this @Indishelllgp Twitter handle is different from the @Indishellgp used for announcements last week.

The Twitter account operated with @Indishellgp, which is followed by one of the PML-N leaders, contains the English alphabet ‘L’ two times in its username. While the account that has been issuing new tweets since Thursday night contains three ‘L’s.

On Thursday, a post from the @Indishelllgp account said that audio would be released within 10 hours. Later, another post on Friday at 6am said it would be released in two hours. After more than one hour, it said the audios would be released at any moment.

This self-proclaimed hacker has asked people to join the group on Telegram, a mobile application.

Some social media users are urging this account to release more audios.

Meanwhile, people were coming up with different interpretations of the pseudonym “Indishell”, saying that it meant “In Dis hell” (pronounced as ‘‘in this hell’’).

The “audio-leak” saga started when an apparent conversation between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz and some members of the federal cabinet was leaked.

The content of the recordings, which appear to be informal conversations in the PM Office has not been denied by PMLN government officials, who instead insisted that it only showed that “nothing illegal had happened”.

But, it prompted the premier to hold a press conference. PM Shehbaz, who described it as a “serious security lapse” had announced that a high-level joint investigation team (JIT) would be formed to investigate it.
