Pakistan flood death toll hits 1,638 as survivors continue to die

The death toll from floods reached 1638 by Sunday afternoon as survivors continue to die due to water-borne diseases and snake bites.

In Sindh, 747 people lost their lives because of the natural calamity, whereas in 323 died in Balochistan, 306 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 48 in Azad Kashmir, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

On the other hand, the number of people injured due to floods is estimated at around 12,865. Sindh is at the top with 8,422 injured flood survivors.

As per the NDMA, 392 bridges were damaged, more than 8,24,000 houses were completely destroyed and more than 1.2 million houses were partially damaged. So far more than 1.103m cattle have lost their lives in the rains and floods.

Additionally, 8,389km of roads in Sindh, 2,198 km in Balochistan, 1,575 km in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 896 in Punjab and 16 km in Gilgit-Baltistan have been damaged in the natural disaster.
