The recent announcement of the national cricket squad for the T20 World Cup has drawn the ire of many, however, former left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir has stolen the show on social media with his dig at chief selector Mohammad Wasim.

“Cheap selection of chief selector,” said Amir in a tweet after Wasim announced the squad that has almost the same faces that went to play the Asia Cup in Dubai.

Though the team reached the final of the event fans and cricket aficionados had called for major changes in the middle order of the national team, with several voices calling for the names of Shoaib Malik, Shan Masood and other stars to support the lineup. Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by 23 runs to win their sixth Asia Cup title.

Masood has made it to the playing 11, however, the side still lacks experience.

Former champions Pakistan will begin their T20 World Cup campaign with an Oct 23 blockbuster against arch-rivals India in Melbourne.

Squad: Babar Azam (captain), Shadab Khan, Asif Ali, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Wasim, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Afridi, Shan Masood, Usman Qadir

Amir retired from cricket on December 17, 2020, and confirmed to PCB chief executive Wasim Khan that he has no desires or intensions of playing international cricket and as such, he should not be considered for future international matches.

“This is a personal decision of Mohammad Amir, which the PCB respects, and as such, will not make any further comment on this matter at this stage,” the PCB had said in a statement.

The fast bowler in a video message had alleged that he was being “mentally tortured” by the PCB management. He said that the environment at the PCB and the way he was sidelined from the 35-member squad for the New Zealand tour was a “wake-up call” for him.

As soon as Amir tweeted, his name came among top trends on Twitter and users were having mixed reviews on the word “cheap”.

This user felt Pakistan will taste defeat since ‘Malik was not on the side’.

This one went too far.

And this user tried to recall history.
