Over 56,000 cases of street crime reported in Karachi this year
KARACHI: At least sixty people were killed in over 56,000 reported cases of street crime that were reported in Karachi in the last eight months, according to official figures.
The real number is believed to be higher as a lot of people are reluctant to report such crimes.
The data from January till now says that another 270 sustained injuries as they were targeted by street criminals.
During the same time, 104 vehicles and 35,000 motorcycles were snatched at gunpoint, while another 1,383 vehicles were stolen from various parts of the city.
This increase has created panic and fear among the residents, with city administrator Murtaza Wahab instructing the police to improve the performance.
The police has added another unit, the Shaheen Force, to curb the rising incidence of street crime in the city.
