Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has sought time to file its reply in the contempt of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) case against former premier Imran Khan and his PTI party leaders Fawad Chaudhry and Asad Umar.

A four-member commission conducted hearing on the case in Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench where PTI’s counsel Faisal Chaudhry argued that he needs more time to submit the reply as he still has to go through copy of the accusations.

The commission said that it issued a show cause notice on the contempt of the Election Commission and that the PTI had to submit a reply in the case.

PTI’s counsel told the court that Sindh High Court had barred the electoral watchdog from making final decision on contempt notice issued to Imran Khan, Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry for allegedly using contemptuous remarks.

Subsequently, the court issued a notice seeking a response from the electoral body on September 7 while restraining it from issuing a final order on the matter.

On this, the election commission granted one week time to Imran Khan and adjourned the hearing till September 7.

A day earlier, the SHC barred the ECP from taking action in a contempt notice issued to PTI leadership.

Earlier, the ECP had issued a contempt of court notice to Imran Khan, Asad Umer and Fawad Chaudhry and directed them to submit their reply to the notice by August 30.

The Election Commission had issued contempt notices to Imran Khan, Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry on August 19.
