Heavy rains delay Balochistan’s polio drive for one week
QUETTA: The five-day anti-polio campaign, which was scheduled to begin on August 29, was delayed for one week in view of the flood situation and weather conditions in the province.
“The anti-polio drive would start on September 5 now,” a message issued by officials of the Emergency Operation Centre said. Balochistan’s population is among more than 43 million children under the age of five that would be administered with vaccine drops in the campaign.
At least 225 people have so far died in heavy rains in Balochistan since June 14 when monsoon season started in the province, showed the National Disaster Management Authority daily situation report data.

- N-25 Quetta-Karachi, Lunda Bridge washed away and opened for light traffic
- M-8 was affected by land sliding and opened for light traffic
At least 34 districts have been affected by the floods, affecting a population of 360,000.
