The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has demanded of the Punjab government to complete its investigation into the May 25 incidents, when the then-provincial authority led by Hamza Shehbaz apparently blocked the PTI from going to Islamabad for protest, in 15 days.

“We have sent our request and in 15 days a report would be submitted [to us] on the May 25 incident,” PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry told reporters in Lahore. He added that the SHO involved in the incidents have been removed from their posts and some of them were arrested.

The PTI and the then Punjab government were at odds over the former’s decision to march toward Islamabad against inflation and the coalition government. The Lahore police had used tear gas against PTI workers, who were heading towards GT Road that connects to Islamabad, videos on social media and TV showed.

The vehicle of PTI leader Yasmin Rashid, who was leading the protest in Lahore’s Batti chowk, came under attack from police as well as men in plainclothes wielding sticks.

“We did not opt for those tactics which were used by the federal government to arrest our leaders,” Fawad said while speaking on the police raid on PML-N leader Attaullah Tarar’s house.

All the accused, including Interior Rana Sanaullah, were part of the investigation, he said and described it as the police’s prerogative.

Fawad said on Sunday that a joint investigation team of Punjab police would be formed and summon PML-N leaders Rana Sanaullah, Attaullah Tarar, Hamza Shehbaz, and Ahmed Malik in the May 25 incident. The development had come after the Federal Investigation Agency launched a probe against two PTI leaders.

“If Tarar and Sanaullah will hide in Islamabad then they will be declared proclaimed offenders,” Fawad advised that they should not fear and clear their position.

“Families of our two workers who died on May 25 seek justice,” he said.
