Headlines at 12 noon: Monsoon rain, PTI rally, Tarar and coffee, I-Day celebrations

Karachi was soaked with rainwater on Saturday as the fourth spell of monsoon rain spell restarted. The highest rainfall was reported in Surjani Town, with 60mm. It put an end to the humid weather in the city. Showers have been reported to affect the traffic in many areas of the city.

Downpours have also submerged low-lying areas in Sindh and damaged the connectivity between cities.

The Quetta-Karachi road was once again temporarily closed for traffic after one of the sections was damaged in heavy rains. At least eight people were killed in different incidents, bringing the total rain death toll to 182 in Balochistan.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was all set to stage a rally in Lahore today (Saturday). PTI Chairman Imran Khan was expected to make “big announcements”, sources said.

The Punjab Police raided PM’s aide Attaullah Tarar’s house on Friday night in an investigation pertaining to the May 25 incident when the then provincial government apparently blocked the PTI workers from participating in the protest. The incident took a different turn when Punjab Home Minister Hashim Dogar offered to serve coffee to Tarar when he appears before police.
