The ruling alliance Sunday decided to file a writ petition in the Supreme Court for the formation of a full court bench to hear the petition filed against the Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari’s ruling in favour of the election of Hamza Shahbaz as Chief Minister.

After the apex court’s decision, the ruling alliance issued a joint declaration, asking the Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial to constitute a full bench of the Supreme Court to hear the petition against Hamza’s election, calling it “an important national, political and constitutional matter”.

The ruling allied parties unanimously said that it would be fair that a full bench comprising all respected judges of the Supreme Court should hear the Supreme Court Bar Association review petition.

“PTI Chairman is repeatedly creating chaos in politics to avoid accountability, conceal his corruption and gain powers through the backdoor,” the declaration added.

The document said that all the coalition parties would move forward together on every platform and in every field to eradicate the darkness of fascism.

The leaders of the government alliance and PDM parties will make an important announcement in a joint press conference on Monday after which they will go to the Supreme Court together with their lawyers and will request the apex court for the simultaneous hearing of the Punjab chief minister’s petition, revised petition of the Supreme Court Bar and other related petitions.

Earlier on Saturday, Hamza Shehbaz took oath as the Punjab chief minister, a day after he was re-elected to the post amidst high drama after Mazari rejected 10 crucial votes of PTI-PML-Q joint candidate Chaudhry Parvez Elahi.

Hamza received 179 votes, while Elahi’s party garnered 176 votes after the deputy speaker refused to count the votes of PML-Q members.

Elahi later moved the apex court against the deputy speaker’s ruling. The Supreme Court allowed Hamza to remain as the “trustee” Punjab province Chief Minister till the hearing resumes on Monday but barred him from using his powers for “political gains” during this period.
