KARACHI: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has rejected the Election Commission’s decision to postpone local body elections in Sindh.

PPP and MQM succeeded in postponing the local elections and the Election Commission did not call political parties before the decision, said PTI leader Khurram Sher Zaman while speaking to the media in Karachi on Thursday. The ECP knew that PTI would win Sindh and that would be an embarassment for them, he added.

Zaman reiterated party chief Imran Khan’s demand that the chief election commissioner step down.

On Wednesday, the Election Commission postponed the second phase of the local body elections in Sindh and NA-245 by-elections in Karachi due to the possibility of rain.

Pakistan Metrological Department has predicted heavy monsoon rains for Sindh from July 24 to 26, with warnings of possible flooding.

The request to postpone the election was made by the Sindh government, after which the Election Commission gave a new date of August 28 for the local body elections and August 21 for the by-elections.

Local body elections in Sindh were to be held on July 24 and by-elections on NA 245 in Karachi were to be held on July 27.
