Illegally hunted deer put to rest in symbolic ceremony in Tharparkar
The locals of Tharparkar organised a ceremonial burial for the deer that was illegally hunted in a show of resistance.
The people buried the carcasses of the endangered species of deer and performed their burial rites in a show of solidarity and affection. The rites they performed were similar to those when somebody in their own family dies. They offered prayers for the departed souls.
The locals of Tharparkar think of the wildlife in the area as a part of their own families.
Last week the villagers from the Rangolio area of Thar staged a protest in Mithi against three hunters they caught, who had illegally hunted seven deer in the protected park’s vicinity.
The protesters demanded that an FIR should be registered. They called out the Sindh Wildlife Department (SWD) for not being able to stop illegal hunting despite several complaints in the past.
Sindh Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah took notice of the incident and suspended four officials of the wildlife department, including deputy conservative officer Riaz Rind, for their failure to protect the rare species even in a wildlife sanctuary.
