Amazing Pakistani actor, director, and screenwriter Sarmad Khoosat is well known for producing super-popular TV dramas like Humsafar and Shehr-e-Zaat. His movie Zindagi Tamasha was chosen as Pakistan’s entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards, solidifying his reputation as one of the best south Asian directors.

He earned recognition in the late 1990s when he wrote the PTV sitcom Shashlik, which aired for more than three years. Shashlik, in which Sarmad Khoosat, Nadia Afgan, Fatima Khan, and other actors participated, was inspired by the love-hate relationship that Cheeku (Sarmad) had with his cousins and friends. Even today, the show has devoted followers who consider it a part of their early days. The storyline and amazing acting, prove to be a good source of entertainment.

Yesterday, Sarmad Khoosat wished his Instagram fans a happy Eid and left them with a video that brought back some fond memories. A lovely edit of a scene from the iconic Shashlik, created by Sarmad himself which was shot between 2000 and 2001.

Khoosat said this was his “first project as a writer, later as a director and 2nd as an actor”. The video shows the friendship between Mishi, who is portrayed by Nadia Afgan, and Sarmad’s Cheekoo. The soundtrack for the video comes from “Kamli,” Sarmad’s most recent film in which Saba Qamar plays the lead. ‘Naina’ is Sohail Shahzad’s music debut in the Pakistani film industry and has become a favorite of many of his fans.

Sarmad then also posted a second edit made by him featuring Cheekoo and Mishi and another song from Kamli. He captioned it “So yeah, I am: Vailaa, Nostalgic, Missing Shaslik, Plugging #kamlithefilm OST, aiming to crack this damn editing app- I’m getting there”

Nadia Afgan reposted Khoosat’s nostalgic post on her story thanking Sarmad for the character of Mishi.

“Thank u for Mishi Sarmad I don’t know where I would be today if Mishi had not rescued me from my previous life. You wrote Mishi and I became her. If I’m bold and beautiful and brave today it’s because of Mishi. It’s because you created my spirit animal, You created Mishi.”
