Karachi-Hyderabad Super Highway traffic restored after night of rain
Traffic was opened on both tracks on the Karachi Super Highway to Hyderabad after a three-hour blockade caused by flooding from the Northern Bypass Thursday night in the second monsoon spell.
The Motorway police were deployed as a three to four-kilometre stretch was affected.
Seasonal waterways flooded in Malir, Memon Goth and Gadap on Karachi’s outskirts. Three young people have been swept away in the water, one was rescued and the search is on for two of them.
Thunderstorm and rain expected today
Weather analyst Owais Hyder has said that thunderstorms and rain were expected on Friday (today) afternoon and evening in Karachi’s surroundings due to the development of clouds.
“Intensity of rain could be different in different areas,” he said on the Aaj News morning show. “Overall the forecast is that the city will receive showers today.”
He reiterated that the rain spell could continue till Eid. High chances of monsoon rain are expected in Karachi’s northern areas, including Surjani Town.
Around 68mm of rain was recorded in Surjani Town and 66mm in Gulshan-e-Hadeed areas of the city on Thursday.
