  • At least four people died because of the coronavirus over the past 24 hours, the National Institute of Health said as Pakistan tries to stem the spread of the virus.

  • People of Karachi and other parts of Sindh should “brace for the impact” as the province was likely to receive torrential rains on Saturday (today), according to the Met Office. Rain-thundershower with heavy to very heavy falls are also expected in Balochistan.

  • A 6.1-magnitude earthquake in southern Iran early on Saturday killed at least five people, state media reported. The area was also hit later by two strong quakes of up to 6.3-magnitude.

  • Unidentified men assaulted senior journalist Ayaz Amir in Lahore on Friday night when he was going home after a programme, the journalist said in a statement to Dunya News.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the incident and directed the Punjab chief minister to conduct an investigation into the incident.

  • The Punjab crisis was apparently resolved on Friday after the Supreme Court ruling that the election for the chief minister would be held on July 22. Both the parties agreed on keeping Hamza Shehbaz as the chief minister till the next election.

The apex court order would bring an end to the crisis-like situation in Punjab, CM Hamza said. Assembly Speaker Parvez Elahi said their demands were met and the House session would be held as per the rules.

  • PTI would hold a rally in Islamabad’s Parade Ground on Saturday (today) against inflation and rising petroleum product prices.

  • PM Shehbaz said that the loadshedding would end but not when. He accused the former government of prevailing issues.

  • The Indian Supreme Court has remarked that BJP leader Nupur Sharma, who made anti-Islam remarks, should apologise to the whole nation.

  • The flight operations in Paris, France were suspended after the staff went on strike. They have demanded a 300 Euros increase in their salaries.
