KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) extended on Wednesday its earlier restraining order on the exhumation and post-mortem of televangelist and politician Aamir Liaquat Hussain.

A two-judge bench of the SHC, headed by Justice Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar, heard the petition of the family against the autopsy of Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain, which had been ordered by the judicial magistrate.

The court extended the stay order on the exhumation and autopsy order of Aamir Liaquat and upheld the order not to exhume Aamir Liaquat till July 19.

The person who petitioned for the post-mortem of Amir Liaquat in the trial court did not appear at the hearing. For his appearance, the court staff kept calling out Abdul Ahad’s name while the police submitted a reply in the court.

The court again issued notice and adjourned the hearing, ordering Abdul Ahad to appear at the next hearing on July 18.

At the last hearing, the court had suspended the order of the Judicial Magistrate East Wazir Hussain Memon regarding the postmortem. Following this, an unknown person filed the plea for a postmortem of Hussain.

The televangelist and former MNA was found dead at his home in Karachi on June 9.
