  • The local government elections were under way in 14 districts – including Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mirpurkhas, Shikarpur, Kandhkot, Sanghar, Ghotki, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Qambar Shadadkot, Umerkot, Tharparkar – on Sunday. Security has been kept on high alert.

“Good luck to all Peoples Party ticket holders taking part in local body elections phase one in 15 districts of Sindh. Tomorrow is Election Day, get out and vote for Bhuttoism, a peaceful, prosperous & progressive,” PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said in a tweet. He urged supporters to remain peaceful and not get provoked.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan has asked the people of Sindh to vote for PTI candidates and “eliminate the Zardari Mafia”. Despite PPP terrorising PTI candidates and not following SC orders to devolve authority to local representatives under Article 140 A of the Constitution, the PTI is taking part in the elections, he claimed.

  • The polling for by-election in PK-7 of Swat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa started on Sunday. As many as 124 polling stations were set up. Strong contest expected between ANP and PTI.\

  • At least two people died due to coronavirus over the last 24 hours, according to the National Institute of Health, as the virus resurges in the country. The Covid positivity ratio was recorded at 2.81%.

  • US President Joe Biden arrives in Germany to attend the G7 summit. Important decisions are expected on the Ukraine situation during the meeting. Further sanctions on Russia also expected.
