Celebrating the iconic Sultan Rahi’s 84th

Fans of legendary actor Sultan Rahi are celebrating his 84th birthday on Friday, he won millions of hearts of cinema lovers with his rock-hard personality and booming voice.

Rahi, the Sultan of Punjabi cinema was born on 24 June 1938 in Saharanpur, India, and migrated to Pakistan with his family after the partition.

The superstar of Lollywood started his film career in 1959 with a supporting role in the film “Baghi”, but he earned extraordinary fame in the late 60s and 70s by doing movies like Maula Jatt, Sher Khan, Wehshi Gujjar, Ghulami, Moti Shair and many more.

During his four-decade-long career, Rahi worked in more than 800 Punjabi and Urdu films and won around 150 awards, including the Nigar Award, in 1971 and 1972. He got a place in the Guinness book of world records as one of the most prolific actors.

The flag bearer of Punjabi cinema was shot dead on January 9, 1996, during an attempted robbery on Grand Trunk road in Gujranwala.

Rahi earned the reputation of Clint Eastwood of Pakistan amid his unique style and persona and always will be remembered.
