Countrywide torrential rains expected from today
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted torrential rains from Monday (today) to Wednesday under the influence of a strong weather system that is likely to enter the upper and central parts of the country.
Under the system, heavy downpours may cause urban flooding.
The National Disaster Management Authority also issued an advisory for departments concerned to ensure the emergency measures.
Widespread rain-windstorms/ thundershowers with scattered heavy to very heavy falls and isolated hailstorms are expected in Balochistan’s Barkhan, Kohlu, Musakhel, Sherani, Zohb, Dera Bugti, Jaffarabad, Naseerabad, Lasbela and Khuzdar.
In Khyber-Pakhtunkwa, rains are forecasted in Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Battagram, Kohistan, Torghar, Shangla, Chitral, Lower & Upper Dir, Swat, Malakand, Buner, Swabi, Mardan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mohmand, Bajaur Khyber, Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Orakzai, Kurram, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank, D.I Khan, North and South Waziristan districts.
The rainfall may generate flash flooding in local rivers and might trigger land sliding in vulnerable hilly areas of the province. DG PMDA said the emergency centers were in full operation and in case of any query, people can contact helpline 1700 of the PMDA for KPK.
Heavy fall are also predicted in Punjab’s Attock, Bahawalnagar, Bhakkar, Chakwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Faislabad, Hafizabad, Jhang, Jhelum, Kasur, Khushab, Lahore, Layyah, Mandibahauddin, Mianwali, Multan, Murree, Narowal, Okara, Pakpattan, Rawalpindi, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Sheikhupura, Sialkot and Toba Tek Sing.
In Sindh, rains are expected in Sukkur, Larkana, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu, Jamshoro, Hyderabad and Karachi from Tuesday evening or night till Wednesday.
Widespread rains are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Astore, Diamer, Ghizer, Gilgit, Hunza and Skardu.
In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, heavy to very heavy falls are expected in Bagh, Bhimber, Hattian, Haveli, Kotli, Mirpur, Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley and Poonch.
Possible impacts of rainfall
- Landsliding in Galiyat, G-B, AJK
- Flash flooding in nullah/rivers of Northeast Balochistan, KP, Punjab, G-B and AJK
- Urban flooding in Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faislabad, Gujranwala and Lahore
- Windstorms may damage loose structures in KP, Punjab, G-B and AJK
The Met Department recorded the highest rainfall, 53mm, in Punjab’s Kot Addu on Saturday.
