The year 2006 was a lifetime ago but coffee was just as big of a thing back then as it is today. Most of us are now working 9-5 jobs and have progressed to completely different stages of our lives, but back then it was just A-Level exams and hangouts at Cafe Coffee Day in Karachi’s Zamzama Commercial Area, famous for its designer outlets and vibrant cafe culture.

While Starbucks took over the world. Cafe coffee day took over India and Karachi. Despite the metropolitan city having the British chain Costa Coffee, the Indian coffee chain was a bigger hit due to its affordability.

A review for the cafe published by tossdown.com read “The interior of the cafe is warm and welcoming. Its three-storied building with comfortable and cushioned couches, colourful walls, and a nice cake display area.”

In recent news, the Labyrinth Literary Agency has picked up the success of India’s largest coffee chain for a book titled Coffee King: The Swift Rise and Sudden Death of Cafe Coffe Day Founder V.G Siddhartha. Rukmini BR and Prosenjit Datta, investigative journalists, wrote the book, which will be published by Pan Macmillan (India). T-Series and Almighty Motion Picture’s Prabhleen Kaur Sandhu, in collaboration with Karma Media Entertainment, have also secured the adaptation rights to the upcoming novel.

“Everyone is familiar with Cafe Coffee Day as a brand,” stated Bhushan Kumar, chairperson and managing director of T-Series. “We are quite ecstatic to bring this intriguing biopic of the man who co-founded the country’s largest retail chain.”

“Cafe Coffee Day is one of India’s most beloved brands and we will be adapting all the nuances of the story of its architect, VG Siddhartha on screen. This is a deeply researched book which gives us a lot of scopes to bring out unknown facets of this great entrepreneur’s life,” said producer Prabhleen Kaur Sandhu, Almighty Motion Picture.
