Belgium hosts event celebrating successful summits in Pakistan

Brussels: The Pakistan Embassy in Brussels hosted Pakistan Adventure Tourism event to mark the successful Belgian summits of K2, Nanga Parbat, and Broad Peak.

Dr. Asad Majeed Khan, Ambassador of Pakistan to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the European Union welcomed the participants at the Embassy.

Participants included renowned Belgian climbers Stef Maginelle, Sophie Lenaerts, Niels Jaspers, Luc Beirinckx and, Wouter Noterman, who recently climbed K2, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum I and II, and Broad Peak. The event was also attended by members of a trekking group that will go on a trekking expedition in Pakistan next month.

Talking on the occasion, the Ambassador of Pakistan highlighted the potential of Pakistan as the most competitive destination for tourism in the world. He clarified that there are many beautiful and undiscovered tourist destinations in Pakistan. He further praised Pakistan’s tourism industry for making significant progress in tourism infrastructure and facilities.

Citing a report released by the World Economic Forum (WEF) last month, the Pakistani ambassador said that the Pakistan International Travel and Tourism Development Index has gone up six points in 2021. The index ranks countries on the basis of sustainable tourism development policies.

He said the Belgian mountaineering expedition would be a source of encouragement for local and international tourists, especially climbers, trekkers, and adventure tourists.

During the event, climbers shared their personal mountaineering experiences on K2, Nanga Parbat, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I and II, the Biafo Glacier, and the icy lakes in the Karakoram mountain range, as well as their interaction with the hospitable locals. they also shared videos of their journey.

“K2 is one of the most attractive peaks in the world, and it was a dream come true for me to climb it,” said Niels Jaspers.

Sophie Lenaerts said that the biggest reward of her visit to Pakistan was that she got in touch with the hospitable locals of Pakistan.

Mr Jens said, “Pakistan is a hidden gem with amazing hospitality and beautiful destinations.”

The event was organised as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the 75th Independence Day of Pakistan.
