Tremors felt in Islamabad, Peshawar

Epicentre in Afghan-Tajikistan border, says PMD

Earthquake tremors were felt at approximately 2:30pm in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad Friday afternoon, June 17.

Severe tremors were felt in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Abbottabad and Malakand. People reported the same in Chakwal, Swabi, Charsadda and surrounding areas.

The magnitude of the quake was recorded at 5.0 and its depth was recorded at 218 km, according to the US Geological Survey that tracks earthquakes globally.

"An earthquake originated on 17-06-2022 at 14=23 PST," said the PMD in Islamabad. "Its magnitude was 5.0, depth 218k." The epicentre was the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region.

The closest earthquake recently reported in the region was Thursday in Kīsh, Iran.
