Did not make political statement when commenting on outcomes of NSC: DG ISPR
The Director General Inter-Services Public Relations Major General Babar Iftikhar Wednesday said that he had not made any ‘political statement’ when he commented on outcomes of the National Security Committee, adding that it was a clarification on behalf of the services chiefs of the Pakistan armed forces.
“It was not an opinion but intelligence-based information,” he said while talking to a private news channel.
“During the National Security Committee session, no service chief had talked about the existence of a conspiracy.”
He said that he had clarified it as spokespersons to the services chiefs, adding that “if someone speaks something about the services chiefs, then I will have to clarify it.”
The military’s spokesperson said that he had responded to Sheikh Rashid’s statement regarding external correspondence in his previous interview.
The DG ISPR, during an interview on Dunya News program On the Front a day earlier, had said the military leadership was present during the NSC meeting and the participants were briefed.
“Apart from the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff, the three Services Chiefs were also present in the meeting” he had said.
Earlier, former federal minister and PTI leader Asad Umar in a press conference had said that it would be better for the army and the country if the military’s spokesperson would not interpret political affairs again and again.
“Let political parties talk to each other about this. But now that he has spoken so it is necessary to give a response,” the PTI leader said in response to DG ISPR comments regarding the NSC meeting.
He said that the facts written in the cable suggested an open threat was being given to Pakistan if the then prime minister Imran Khan was ousted through the no-confidence motion then Pakistan would be forgiven.
The military’s spokesperson said that none of the services chiefs in the committee had said that there was an external conspiracy against the previous government.
DG ISPR said that Pak army has no objection to the formation of a commission to investigate the issue, adding that the present government has the power to form a judicial commission.
He said that whatever commission the government formed, the military would extend full cooperation.
