A young man, who travelled nearly 150 kilometres to Karachi from his hometown Hyderabad, refused to return until he could attend the funeral of his favourite television personality, Aamir Liaquat Hussain, who passed away a day earlier.

The burial was supposed to be done after Friday prayers on the premises of Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s shrine in Karachi. It was delayed following a standoff between the family and the police over the post-mortem.

Hundreds of people arrived at the shrine at around noon for the funeral, including Abdullah.

Around 3pm, people started to leave the shrine following reports that that the police were refusing to hand over the body to the family over the issue of post-mortem. It was held at the morgue for inspection to ascertain the cause of death.

By 4pm, only a handful of people were left. By 5pm, the body was released and transferred to the burial location. The funeral prayer was offered after Asr (mid-day) prayer and Aamir Liaquat laid to rest in the compound of Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s shrine.
