SWAT/ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday ordered the officials to send two helicopters to put out the Swat’s Patnai wildfire, which erupted on Saturday, upon the request of the National Disaster Management Authority.

“The cause of the wildfire could not be determined so far however the investigation is underway to ascertain the causes,” Swat District Commissioner Junaid Khan told Aaj News.

The district administration, forest department, and Rescue 1122 together were trying to put out the fire in Tehsil Babuzai’s Patnai Mingora area. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had asked the government to provide them with helicopters in order to prevent the fire from spreading further because of dry weather and strong winds.

PM Shehbaz called for the immediate release of aerial relief for extinguishing the fire.

Moreover, the wildfire in Swat and Buner was put out after three days of hectic effort. The fire in Azad Kashmir Bagh, which erupted last night, was also extinguished. Several trees were burned and many animals were killed in the forest fire.

Divisional Forest Officer Wasim Khan told Aaj News that the fire was brought under control in Mingora Phatany, Barikot, Kabal Segram, Sher-e-Atarp, Kota Abuha, Nine Clay, and Kot Charbagh.

“Rescue operation is underway to extinguish the fire in Doct area of Kabal,” he said, adding that seventy per cent of the fires in the forest have been brought under control.

“We are investigating the cause of fire incidents,” he added.
