After Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh’s initiative of slashing petrol quota for government officials, the Punjab government will also not provide free petrol to ministers following Rs60 per litre rise in fuel prices in less than 10 days.

Punjab government Spokesperson Attaullah Tarar announced it while addressing a press conference in Lahore on Saturday.

After a massive hike in fuel prices, the cost of various food items and necessities has increased across the country.

Talking about subsidised flour being sold in the province, Tarar requested the Nan Bai Association to reduce the prices of roti as “cheap flour” is available in the province.

“As per annual subsidy of Rs200 billion, a 10-kilogramme bag of flour is available in the province at Rs490,” he said, adding that the government had formed price control committees and restored the process of price lists.

“The committees will monitor prices of basic commodities in the markets regularly and submit a daily report to Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz,” he said.

To control the illegal export of subsidised flour to other provinces, the Punjab government has created border control management to curb the practice.

Amid the wave of inflation, he said, the chief minister will announce more measures to control the prices of basic food items.
