Headlines at 8am: PML-N huddle in London on strategy, PTI jalsa, PIA safety

Here are some of the stories that we will be following today, May 12, 2022:

PML-N London huddle

A meeting of PML-N leaders will be taking place in London to come up with a strategy to take on Pakistan’s economic crisis. Nawaz Sharif has been briefed on the political situation and economic crisis. Marriyum Aurangzeb says that a strategy will be decided today.

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has clarified what he said about general elections in November. In an interview with a private TV channel, he said that they should not be held before NAB and electoral reforms are undertaken. Elections could be held in November before the appointment of a new army chief

PTI jalsa in Attock

The PTI will hold a jalsa in Attock today. It will have a double stage. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan will address the rally.

Forex disaster The rupee has tanked. It cost Rs190.20 to buy one dollar in Pakistan for the first time in history.

Flight safety The European Aviation Safety Agency officials will visit Pakistan in May or June, according to sources. They will be visiting PIA to review flight safety standards of Pakistani airlines.

Anniversary Fifteen years have passed since the May 12 tragedy in which violence broke out in Karachi during the movement to restore the judiciary. More than 50 people were shot dead and 130 others were injured and dozens of vehicles and property destroyed. Cases were registered but no justice has been forthcoming since.

Political gripes A case to disqualify PTI MNAs for life for going against the party has been thrown out. A three-member bench headed by the Chief Election Commissioner delivered the verdict. PTI says it will challenge the decision in the Supreme Court.

News in brief At least four people were killed and three others were injured in a collision between a passenger coach and a car near Zhao Cross in Bela. The bodies and injured were taken to Bela hospital.

Forty-nine buses of the Sindh People’s Intra Bus Project have reached Karachi Port. The remaining buses will reach in a month.
