Brother shoots model dead for ‘honour’ in Okara
A fashion model was killed by their brother in the name of so-called honour in a village near Okara, reported Aaj News on Friday.
The 22-year-old victim Sidra was laid to rest in a local cemetery after funeral prayers. The police had handed over her body to the family after conducting a post-mortem.
The suspect, Hamza, has been arrested and is under investigation, said officials at Renala Khurd City police station. In an initial statement, Hamza has confessed to the murder.
The suspect will be presented in court after the post-mortem report is released.
According to DPO Okara Faisal Gulzar, police will conduct a thorough investigation and make sure justice is served.
Sources close to the family of the deceased told Aaj News that Sidra had left home six months ago to pursue a career in showbiz. She wanted to become a model, but her family was against her decision.
The family was tired of receiving condescending remarks from their relatives and friends regarding Sidra. She had two elder and one younger sister, and the family was worried about what Sidra’s actions would mean for their future.
According to some relatives, Sidra’s family members “conspired” to bring her back home on Eid. They told her she’d be forgiven for leaving home, and going against the family’s wishes.
When the Eid gathering ended and it was time for Sidra to go back, a heated argument took place which resulted in the fatal shooting.
Hamza shot Sidra in the head.
A case was registered against the suspect by the mother of the deceased.
