Lahore: PML-N leaders Khawaja Salman Rafique and Hafiz Nauman were arrested by Garden Town police on Thursday, a day after their guards tortured an army officer, reported Aaj News.

The three guards involved in the attack were also arrested earlier after an FIR was registered by the victim's father.

The lawmakers were arrested when they came to the police station to aid the investigation, amid speculation that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had asked them to do so, reported Dawn.

According to the FIR, registered by the victim’s father, retired Major Mohammad Rashid, the altercation happened after Salman Rafique’s security team overtook Major Haris’s car and hit it in the process.

After the men in the security detail, started to become rude, Haris informed them of his position in the army, apparently enraging them. The three men then pulled out small metal rods and started beating Haris as well as smashing his car.

It was only after passersby intervened that the men stopped hitting Haris and fled the scene. He swallowed blood from his injuries and looked unconscious in the videos released on social media by various people at the scene.

The young major had swallowed a lot of blood and was taken to CMH, where he remains under treatment.

Acting CCPO confirmed that Haris’s father did not nominate any leaders from the political party in the FIR. However, in a late-night media talk, Haris’s lawyer confirmed that a supplementary statement was submitted to the police, asking for an impartial investigation, as well as determining the role played by Salman Rafique and Hafiz Nauman.
