Mehreen Jabbar announces web series based on 90’s telefilm ‘Farar’
Director Mehreen Jabbar last week announced that she will be remaking her widely-watched 1995 telefilm ‘Farar’ as a web series, now starring Sarwat Gillani Tooba Siddiqui, Mariam Saleem, Maha Hasan, Zahid Ahmed and Saleem Meraj.
“From old Farar to a new Farar,” said Jabbar in an Instagram post. The telefilm is being revived after 25 years and is expected to come out this year.
Farar, be it old or new, is a story of “three friends trying to get by and shine in the glorious and mad city that is Karachi.”
Written by Azra Babar, the telefilm starred three friends played by actors Sania Saeed, Marina Khan and Huma Nawab. The three women are strikingly opposite to each other, but the one thing they have in common is the struggle in relationships and life.
The “old Farar” did an exceptionally good job at portraying the modern Pakistanis of the 90s through the three friends. The impeccable sense of fashion and music made it a delightful watch.
The same or better can be expected from the “new Farar.”
The web series will be streamed online on the Indian OTT platform, Zee5, which unfortunately is inaccessible in Pakistan due to a ban on paying the streaming site, imposed by the State Bank.
Zee5 hosts many new Pakistani web series including Mrs & Mr Shameem, Ek Jhooti Love Story, and Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam.
