Zahir Jaffer, prime suspect in Noor Mukadam murder case, has filed plea in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against his conviction after the court awarded him death penalty in Noor case, Express Tribune reported.

Last month a local court in Islamabad had sentenced Zahir Jaffer to death for the murder of Noor Mukadam after a trial of four months.

Co-accused Jan Muhammad and Muhammad Iftikhar, the gardener and security guard at Zahir’s house, were sentenced to 10 years in prison each. However, Zahir’s parents, Zakir Jaffer and Ismat Adamjee, and a domestic helper, Jamil, as well as six other suspects in the case were acquitted from the charge of abetment.

On Tuesday, IHC bench members Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq heard the appeal, during which Advocate Shah Khawar appeared in the court on behalf of Noor’s father, Shaukat Muqadam.

The court also sought the trial court’s records on the appeal against the acquittal of nine accused in the case.

Earlier on March 12, an appeal was filed in the IHC against the acquittal of nine accused in the case.

The appeals were filed on behalf of Noor's father through his counsel Khawar challenging the acquittal of Zahir’s parents Zakir Jaffer and Ismat Adamjee and domestic helper Jamil.
