Against the backdrop of a no-confidence motion filed by the opposition, the PTI government ministers on Tuesday “failed” to convince estranged leader Aleem Khan to meet with Prime Minister Imran Khan.

“Whether it’s Aleem Khan or Jehangir Tareen and other [disgruntled] leaders, they are the party's [PTI] asset. They still love the party and [PM Imran] Khan Sb values them. Inshallah, all matters will be resolved,” Sindh governor Imran Ismail said while talking to reporters in Lahore. He was speaking along with Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry

Ismail was in the provincial capital of Punjab to meet estranged leader Aleem Khan, who on Monday joined the other disgruntled group of lawmakers led by Jehangir Tareen.

PM Imran had given the Sindh governor the task to meet the estranged leaders and convince them to support the government.

The prime minister said he was all set to face the opposition's attempts to topple his government and warned them of dire consequences once they fail.

The opposition alliance filed their no-confidence move in the National Assembly on Tuesday.

Ismail expressed hope that they would resolve the issues today (Tuesday). “A little bit of dissatisfaction occurs on a few issues so we will handle those issues,” he said.

To a query on reservations pertaining to Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, he said that it was PM Imran’s discretion and similar demand was set by him (Aleem). “He [Aleem] will discuss it when he will meet PM Imran.”

To another query, whether they will arrange Aleem’s meeting with the premier, Ismail said that “definitely” the former minister would meet the PTI chief and would continue to do so.

However, according to sources, Ismail failed to convince Aleem to meet PM Imran as the government team makes effort to break the ice between the premier and disgruntled leaders.

Sources added that Aleem would travel to London to meet Tareen and inquire about the latter’s health. They added that there are reports for change of administration in Punjab, the most populous province of the country, which dominates the country’s political landscape.

Information Minister Chaudhry, Planning Minister Asad Umar, and Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar are in favour of a change in the top administration of Punjab, they said, adding that Defence Minister Pervez Khattak was also in favour of changing the provincial administration to improve the party’s image. Moreover, provincial lawmakers have also been raising voices to change the Punjab administration.

However, the coalition partner PML-Q was not in favour of Aleem’s appointment as Punjab’s chief executive. They have rather called for their support for Buzdar if the government wanted to appoint Aleem.

Meanwhile, sources close to Usman Buzdar say that Aleem Khan as Punjab chief minister would be unacceptable to the incumbent, while he has agreed to Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi's elevation to the chief ministership.

Aaj News, while citing sources, reported that PM Imran had called a meeting of the senior party leaders to discuss the brewing political situation.
