A shocking story about a father murdering his seven-day-old baby girl in Mianwali on Monday went viral and people have not been able to wrap their head around it. The man shot the infant five times because he wanted a baby boy and then fled. He is still at large.

His father-in-law filed an FIR against him.

Mianwali was among the top ten trends of Pakistan on Twitter and many people expressed their disbelief over the heinous crime.

Social media users were quick to point out the irony about Women’s Day being celebrated a day after infants are being murdered for being the wrong gender.

While others were wondering what kind of torture the murderer’s wife must have gone through.

Some spoke about Islam to show how this killing was unacceptable at every level.

While others asked for equal rights for the women in this country.

Some expressed anger at the legal system of the country and were not hopeful about the murderer being arrested.

But most of all men flooded the hashtag with pictures of themselves and their daughters, declaring that their daughters are blessings and how proud they are of them.
