In two separate incidents, armed muggers on Monday killed a teenage student and an employee of Daraz e-commerce in Karachi's Landhi and Korangi areas, reported Dawn.

Nineteen-year-old Usman Saleem saw armed robbers looting a citizen near Eidgah Ground in Landhi. He panicked and tried to run away but the muggers shot him, according to police and witnesses.

Saleem suffered a critical bullet wound in his neck and fell outside the house of his friend. He was rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he was pronounced dead, the report quoted victim's uncle Nadeem as saying.

"My nephew was killed because he had witnessed the robbers committing the crime," said the uncle, regretting that Karachiites had been left at the mercy of robbers.

During the second incident, which happened near Godam Chowrangi in Korangi, an employee of Daraz e-commerce service, Ashok, was shot dead and two security guards — Mehboob Ahmed and Wazir Mohammad — were wounded by armed muggers.

The muggers shot the victims as they were resisting the robbery attempt, a Korangi Industrial Area police official said.

Giving details, the Korangi SSP told reporters that the victims were travelling in a van carrying cash belonging to the e-commerce service when armed robbers in a white car intercepted their vehicle at around 11am. An exchange of fire ensued between the robbers and guards, during which Ashok was killed and the two security guards suffered injuries, he added.

The incidents of robbery gripped other areas of Karachi as well. An encounter between police and suspected robbers in FB Industrial Area injured a policeman and two passers-by.

As per details of the incident, officials in a police mobile van tried to stop two suspects riding on a motorbike near Airlift Company's office in Federal B Area. However, the suspected men started indiscriminate firing. Police also returned fire and during the exchange of shots 35-year-old Constable Amir Shahnawaz and passers-by, 30-year-old Kamran Shah and 30-year-old Nasir Ali, were injured.

The suspects managed to escape from the scene, while the injured policeman was taken to the Aga Khan University Hospital and citizens were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.

On February 18, Samaa TV journalist Athar Mateen intercepted a robbery in Karachi's North Nazimabad area, by ramming his car into the suspects but he was shot dead. Sindh police claim that they have arrested one of the suspects involved in the killing of the journalist from Balochistan's Khuzdar.

The other suspect - Mohammad Anwar - was killed in a police "encounter" in Qambar Shahdadkot district, Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab said in a tweet.
