A qari in Rawalpindi on Monday slit the throat of a 12-year-old female student he was teaching the Holy Quran to, reported Geo News.

The 21-year-old qari, identified as Adil, who hailed from Abbottabad, used to give Quran lessons at the girl's home in Mohalla Chak Madad Westridge area, according to the report.

A day before the incidents, the girl's parents stopped Adil's services after the young girl complained about his "inappropriate behaviour" towards her.

On Monday, the qari approached the victim while she was going for tuition in her neighborhood and slit her throat, the police is quoted as saying in the report.

Following the incident, the police gathered evidence from the crime scene and shifted the minor's body to a hospital for an autopsy.

The police registered a first information report in Rata Amral police station on the complaint of the victim's father, Zahid Naseer, and arrested the suspect. During the initial interrogation, Adil confessed to the crime, saying the victim's family was suspicious of him which is why he murdered her.

In a series of tweets, Rawalpindi police shared brief details of the incident as well as a blurred picture of the suspect.

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar condemned the girl's murder and sought a probe from the authorities concerned.
