A Sargodha man killed his sister on Sunday after she survived being raped by a group of men, who later won interim bails from a local court, according to Dawn News.

According to police reports, four men belonging to an influential family, gang raped the 28-year-old last Thursday and also filmed the crime.

The FIR was registered at the Laksiyan Police Station but police allegedly failed to take any action to arrest the four accused. The criminals then approached a local court and were able to win pre-arrest bails.

The victim’s brother, named as Yasir, feeling angry and aggrieved, shot his sister dead on Saturday, along with two accomplices and fled the scene. The police arrested him when he was trying to murder the alleged rapists.

Yasir was quoted as saying he took action on his own when the police failed to arrest the suspects, who were also pressuring his family to reconcile.

Many rape survivors and their families face a lot of stigma in Pakistan, with some of them being killed in honor crimes.

The following criteria fall under rape according to sections 375 and 376 of the Pakistan Penal Code: Sexual acts against her will; without her consent; with her consent; when the consent has been obtained by putting her in fear of death or of being hurt; with her consent; when the man knows that he is not married to her and that the consent is given because she believes that the man is another person to whom she is or believes herself to be married; or with or without her consent when she is under the age of 16.

The punishment for a convicted rapist is at least 10 years and a maximum of 25 years but conviction numbers remain next to nil in the country.
