Pakistan’s Covid graph begins to show downward trajectory

Pakistan has reported less than 4,000 coronavirus cases in a single day after more than three weeks, showing a downward trajectory in the country’s Covid graph.

In related news, the National Command and Operation Centre said on Monday that the nationwide vaccination campaign has started to give “outstanding results."

“Statistics 7 Feb 22: total tests in last 24 hours: 44,779; positive cases: 3,338; positivity %: 7.45%; deaths: 38; patients on critical care: 1,684,” the NCOC said in a tweet on Monday.

The countrywide tally showed that Sindh had the highest number of infected patients, 552,262 cases, followed by Punjab (489,655), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (203,110), Islamabad (131,628), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (40,741), Balochistan (34,819), and Gilgit Baltistan (10,896).

The last time, the country had reported less than 4,000 Covid cases was on January 13 when as many as 3,567 cases were reported out of the 48,449 tests conducted over the last 24 hours.

According to NCOC's daily update, since February 1 the country has reported less than 10,000 cases and the Covid positivity ratio remained less than 10 per cent with casualties reported less than 40.

Amidst this, NCOC’s target to inoculated 35 million with Covid jabs in the two-week countrywide vaccination campaign is also under way and according to the government ministers, the drive was showing positive results.

“Highest daily vaccination records set 3 days in a row. [The] nationwide mobile vaccination campaign designed by NCOC and being implemented with help of provinces producing outstanding results,” NCOC head Asad Umar said in a tweet on Sunday.

He added that the target was to reach all citizens.

The NCOC forum, which serves as the centre of the country’s unified efforts to contain the spread of novel coronavirus, also said 38 per cent of the total country’s population stand vaccinated against the virus.

“Vaccine statistics: vaccine administered across Pakistan in last 24 hours: 1,842,955 Total vaccines administered till now: 185,916,838; 38% of the total population and 56% of eligible population stand vaccinated,” it read.
