Inter-Services Public Relations Director General Major General Babar Iftikhar has rejected the Indian Chief of Army Staff's claim that the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) is holding because they negotiated from a "position of strength". He described it as misleading in a tweet on Friday.

The ISPR chief said the ceasefire was agreed only due to Pakistan's concerns for the safety of the people of Kashmir living on both sides of the LoC.

He was responding to a statement by Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukhand Narvane who on Thursday said "Ceasefire with Pakistan continues to hold as India negotiated from position of strength."

The Pakistani military spokesperson rejected Narvane's claim saying no side should misconstrue it as their strength or other's weakness.

Pakistan and India agreed on a ceasefire on LOC last February after which incidents of cross border firing have reduced.

They agreed to re-enforce the ceasefire which went into effect from February 25, 2021.

The director-generals of military operations in both countries have been in touch, according to an ISPR statement, in the interest of achieving "mutually beneficial and sustainable peace."

In January, the Indian army chief said said his country was not averse to the possible demilitarisation of the Siachen glacier.

Pakistan did not reject the possibility outright but insisted on talks.

“On multiple occasions, the prime minister and the foreign minister have expressed our position on this matter (dialogue). But India has vitiated the environment -- the conditions are not there. We have repeatedly said that onus lies on India to take necessary steps for an environment conducive for constructive dialogue,” said the spokesman at the Foreign Office, during the weekly media briefing that week.
