The prime accused in Noor Mukadam murder case, Zahir Jaffer, submitted three pleas in the Islamabad Session and Judge Court on Wednesday one of which requested the summon ownership of a mobile number along with its record and date of issuance of the SIM.

The mobile number which was time and again quoted as the number of victim’s mother and complainant Shaukat Mukadam’s wife, Kausar, actually belonged to a person named Tasneem Jasnak, read the plea.

In the application, Sikandar Zulqarnain Saleem, Zahir’s lawyer, wrote that the complainant’s wife “never joined the investigation in this regard nor she is floated as a witness before this court” despite the complainant’s statement in the FIR that Kausar tried to establish contact with Noor using her cell.

“This makes the version of complainant and prosecution doubtful,” it added.

Saleem, in the application, maintained Jasnak was continuously in contact with the victim and “this aspect of the case should also be available on the record of this case in the interest of justice as the alleged accused intends to summon the same in his defence.”

In another application submitted in the court, Zahir’s lawyer requested the court to direct Islamabad Inspector General Police Muhammad Ahsan Younas and other officials to “perform their duty and let the court proceed with the case in a legal manner”.

This application was submitted in reference to a document issued by the Islamabad police officials on its official Twitter account on January 25, saying a detailed report of the Punjab Forensic Science Agency contained comprehensive evidence that was sufficient for the conviction of the accused in Noor's murder case.

The document came to surface followed by cross-examination of the Investigation Officer Abdul Sattar in the court in which he said that Zahir's fingerprints were not on the knife used in the murder.

The two-page document listed questions and answers as well as their explanations that were put before the IO during January 24th hearing of the case.

In the application submitted by Zahir’s lawyer, it stated that the public officer holders namely, IG police, DIG Operations, Chief Prosecutor, SSP Investigation and IO, were “trying to influence the proceedings of the court” as they held a "press conference" and "attempted to give an impression that court proceedings are conducted wrong and same needs clarification".

The third application submitted in the court maintained that the IO presented a "managed and untrue" site plan of the place before the court where the murder occurred.

The defendant’s lawyer requested the court to exercise Section 539-B of Criminal Procedure of Code which empowers him to “personally visit” the place where the crime occurred and prepare a memorandum in this regard and made the same a part of judicial file of the case “to ascertain true facts of the case”.

On Wednesday, Session Judge Atta Rabbani conducted hearing of the case in which non-essential people were asked to leave the courtroom and in-camera hearing of the case started so that lawyer Shahzad Qureshi, who is representing Therapy Works employees, could play the video of the incident.

Lawyers, Qureshi and Asad Jamal, who is representing Zahir’s mother Asmat Adamjee, completed cross-examination of the investigation officer.

When asked who would argue on the applications submitted on behalf of the defendant, a junior lawyer said Advocate Saleem would do that.

However, he did not appear before the court during the course of hearing.

Later, the court adjourned hearing of the case without further proceedings till February 7.

Noor Mukadam, the 27-year-old victim, was brutally murdered in Jaffer's home in Islamabad on July 20, 2021. Zahir, his parents, their household staff and six members of Therapy Works, a counselling and psychotherapy centre, have been indicted in the case on October 14, 2021.
