FBR tax directory: Guess how much PM Imran, Shehbaz Sharif, Asif Zardari paid in 2019?

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Monday released its Tax Directories of Parliamentarians for the tax year 2019.

According to the FBR, Prime Minister Imran Khan paid tax returns worth Rs9.85 million.

According to the data, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif paid Rs8.2m tax returns while PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari paid Rs0.53m.

The data revealed that PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari paid Rs2.2m while Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah's tax amounted to Rs1.1m

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin paid Rs26.62 million while Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar paid Rs4.27 million.

Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo paid Rs1.1m, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan paid Rs66,258, while Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar paid a measly Rs2,000.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi paid Rs0.9m while Energy Minister Hammad Azhar paid Rs29,025.

According to the directory Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Yousuf Raza Gillani and PML-N's Azma Zahid Bokhari did not pay anything in taxes.

The revenue board said this data only includes income and tax declared in return filed to FBR and does not include agricultural income tax paid to provinces, sales tax, federal excise duty, etc.

“This directory has been tabulated from returns filed manually and electronically till January 3, 2022,” the revenue board said.
