Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar on Sunday said the leaked audio clip allegedly attributing to him was fabricated and it was not his voice, reported Geo.

According to a story and audio clip published in Fact Focus and widely circulated on social media, the (retd) chief justice allegedly talking to another person while giving the impression that the former CJP conveyed the directions of handing down conviction to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz only because the “institutions” wanted them penalized in order to bring ahead Prime Minister Imran Khan.

"Let me be a little blunt about; unfortunately, here [in Pakistan] it is the institutions who dictate judgments," allegedly former CJP can be heard saying to another person.

He said: "In this case, we will have to penalize Mian Sahib [Nawaz Sharif]. And they [military establishment] say “we shall bring [Imran] Khan Sahib [to power]. Regardless of the merit, we will have to do it [sentence Nawaz Sharif] and even to his daughter."

On giving sentence to the daughter of three time prime minister, the other person said: "But in my view, his daughter does not merit a sentence."

In the alleged audio, former chief justice of Pakistan agreed with the person and said, "You are absolutely correct. I did talk to “friends” that something be done about this but they did not agree."

"There will be no independence of the judiciary, so let it be....," he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that on Nov 15 former Gilgit-Baltistan judge claimed that Nisar had asked a high court judge to keep Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz in jail till the 2018 general elections.

However, the former CJP dismissed the allegations levelled against him by ex-chief justice Gilgit-Baltistan Rana Shamim and termed the claims as baseless.

Later, the Islamabad High Court issued show-cause notices to all parties in the case about allegations made by Shamim against ex-CJP.

The IHC summoned Shamim, the editor-in-chief of The News Mir Shakilur Rahman and journalist Ansar Abbasi who broke the sensational story.

Few weeks ahead of 2018 general elections, an accountability court handed over a 10-year imprisonment to then ousted prime minister Nawaz for owning assets beyond income and one year for not cooperating with the National Accountability Bureau.

While his daughter Maryam was given seven years sentence for abetment after she was found "instrumental in concealment of the properties of her father" and one year for non-cooperation with the accountability watchdog.
