Rupee tumbles to fresh all-time low against US dollar
ISLAMABAD: The rupee touched a new all-time low of Rs174.43 against the US dollar in the inter-bank market on Monday, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
The rupee has maintained the downtrend for the past five months. It has lost 14.55% (or Rs22.16) to date compared to the 22-month high of Rs152.27 recorded in May.
The exchange rate of Pakistan rupee against US dollar depreciated by 42 paisas in the interbank trading on Monday to close at Rs174.42 against the previous day's closing of Rs174.00.
According to Forex Association of Pakistan, the buying and selling rates of dollar in open market were recorded at Rs174 and Rs175 respectively.
Similarly, the price of euro which was traded at Rs202.42, depreciated by 04 paisas as compared to its last closing of Rs202.46, the State Bank of Pakistan reported.
The Japanese Yen gained one paisa to close at Rs1.53, whereas an increase of 27 paisas was witnessed in the exchange rate of British Pound, which was traded at Rs240.47 as compared to its last closing of Rs240.20.
The exchange rates of Emirates Dirham and Saudi Riyal increased by 11 paisas each to close at Rs47.48 and Rs46.50 respectively.
