Punjab reported at least 450 cases on Sunday, of which 335 were from Lahore, according to Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch.

The number of cases in Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also growing, according to a story in Geo quoting a press statement: 64 cases were reported from Rawalpindi, 8 in Attock, 6 in Khanewal, and 5 in Gujrat.

The statement adds four dengue patients were reported in Faisalabad, Muzaffargarh, Okara and Sahiwal each, three cases from Hafizabad and Sheikhupura and two from Chakwal.

This brings the tally to 6,727 cases across the province, of which 4,874 are from Lahore alone.

This can be evidenced from people taking to Twitter to slam the government for the dismal situation.

There is especial concern given the smog in Lahore which fuels pollution and brings a whole host of ailments with it.

Many are expressing their concern at the lack of care shown by this government in trying to contain the situation.

As Dawn reported on Monday, about 50,000 cases of mosquito-borne disease were reported in 2019 and at least 79 patients died. The paper also said a proper arrangement had been in place at the national level to compile data of new cases for the last decade which would release the figures to the media on a daily basis for public awareness. However, no such thing took place this year ostensibly because the administration is dealing with Covid.

This has given PML-N opportunity to let people know about its efforts when it was in government in containing the disease.
