The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PM-N) on Sunday announced legal proceedings against the Pakistan Television Netwrok (PTV) and a private news channel for airing news of Junaid Safdar's, son of Maryam Nawaz, name in Pandora Papers.

In a series of tweets, PML-N Spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb and member of the National Assembly termed the news against Junaid fake, saying instructions had been issued to the lawyers to initiate legal proceedings against the PTV.

She alleged Prime Minister Imran Khan for running the fake news on the state television to divert attention from the government which was facing disgrace.

The former information minister called for apology from the channels who aired the fake news, asking the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) to lodge case against Prime Minister Imran Khan, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, PTV and other channels who aired the fake news against Junaid and initiate proceedings against them.

In a Geo News programme Naya Pakistan with Shehzad Iqbal, journalist Umar Cheema categorically denied name of Junaid in the Pandora Papers.

Cheema was one of the journliats from Pakistan who contributed to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) in preparing the Pandora Papers, the largest investigation in the journalism history.
