Rupee slumps to record low against US dollar

ISLAMABAD: The exchange rate of Pakistan rupee depreciated by 18 paisas on Wednesday against the US dollar in interbank trading and closed at Rs169.12 as compared to the previous day’s closing of Rs168.94, according to State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

According to Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP), the buying and selling rates of dollar in the open market were recorded at Rs169.6 and Rs170.6 respectively.

The price of euro was appreciated by Rs0.27 and closed at Rs200.01 against the last day’s trading of Rs199.74, the State Bank of Pakistan reported.

The Japanese Yen gained one paisa to close at Rs1.54, whereas a decrease of Rs 0.39 was witnessed in the exchange rate of British Pound, which was traded at Rs 234.00 as compared to its last closing of Rs 234.39.

The exchange rates of Emirates Dirham and Saudi Riyal increased by 05 paisas each to close at Rs 46.04 and Rs 45.09 respectively.
